ALZET® Pumps are small, implantable pumps for research in mice, rats, and other laboratory animals.
Widely used in cardiovascular research, these minipumps continuously deliver drugs, hormones and other test agents – of any molecular weight – at controlled rates. Sold empty and filled by the researcher, these pumps are completely implanted with no need for external connections or frequent animal handling. With durations ranging from ranging from one day to six weeks, the pumps’ unattended operation eliminates the need for repeated nighttime or weekend dosing by lab personnel.
Published work in cardiovascular research demonstrates the value of these pumps to create disease models in order to identify therapeutic targets and test new therapies. For example, angiotensin II is delivered to establish models of hypertension and abdominal aortic aneurysm. ALZET pumps are also used to deliver therapeutics, such as platelet-derived growth factors to promote cardiac repair after a myocardial infarction. Their use has been described in thousands of studies.
